KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Frequently asked
questions.

Do I need climbing experience to summit Kilimanjaro?+

No technical climbing experience is required. Kilimanjaro is a trek, not a technical climb. However, a good level of fitness and mental preparation are essential. Our guides will support you every step of the way.

What is the best route for Kilimanjaro?+

The Lemosho and Northern Circuit routes offer the best balance of scenery, solitude, and acclimatization. The Machame route is excellent for fit hikers. We recommend 7-9 days for the highest summit success rate.

How fit do I need to be?+

You need to be reasonably fit and comfortable with long days of walking (5-8 hours). Cardiovascular training, hill walking, and carrying a daypack are good preparation. Our guides set a slow pace to help with acclimatization.

What is the summit success rate?+

Overall success rates vary from 45% to 85% depending on the route and duration. Our multi-day itineraries with proper acclimatization achieve success rates above 90%.

What about altitude sickness?+

Altitude sickness can affect anyone regardless of fitness. Our itineraries include proper acclimatization days, and our guides are trained to recognize and manage symptoms. We carry emergency oxygen and descent protocols.

What should I pack for a mountain trek?+

Layered clothing for temperatures from -10C to 25C, a quality sleeping bag rated to -15C, trekking poles, waterproof jacket and pants, headlamp, sunscreen, high-energy snacks, and a reusable water bottle.
