No technical climbing experience is required. Kilimanjaro is a trek, not a technical climb. However, a good level of fitness and mental preparation are essential. Our guides will support you every step of the way.
The Lemosho and Northern Circuit routes offer the best balance of scenery, solitude, and acclimatization. The Machame route is excellent for fit hikers. We recommend 7-9 days for the highest summit success rate.
You need to be reasonably fit and comfortable with long days of walking (5-8 hours). Cardiovascular training, hill walking, and carrying a daypack are good preparation. Our guides set a slow pace to help with acclimatization.
Overall success rates vary from 45% to 85% depending on the route and duration. Our multi-day itineraries with proper acclimatization achieve success rates above 90%.
Altitude sickness can affect anyone regardless of fitness. Our itineraries include proper acclimatization days, and our guides are trained to recognize and manage symptoms. We carry emergency oxygen and descent protocols.
